Want to kickstart your day with small actions that lead to massive health and happiness wins?
If so, read on.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the power of leveraging our habits.
What are some simple practices that, when done consistently, yield disproportionate results? It’s the whole Pareto Principle thing, which essentially says that 80% of your results are produced by 20% of your actions.
Here are three easy morning habits that I aim to do at least 5 days per week that have yielded big results in my life. What’s even better? You can do them in under 20 minutes!
- Drink Warm Water with Lemon and a Pinch of Salt
Start your morning with a warm glass of water, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and a tiny pinch of high-quality salt (like Himalayan or sea salt). This will hydrate you after sleep, support your digestion, and replenish electrolytes. It’s like giving your body a gentle wake-up hug!
Pro Tip: Keep a lemon and salt shaker by your kettle for quick prep. - Practice Gratitude for 2-5 Minutes
Before diving into your day, take a moment to write or ponder three things you’re grateful for. The key here? Feel the emotion of thankfulness. Lean into the experience of how this person, event, possession, etc. makes you feel. NOTE: If you only do ONE of these habits, make it this one. Practicing gratitude has been an absolute game-changer for me and I’ll tell anyone who’ll listen. It rewires your brain for positivity, reduces stress, and sets a joyful tone for the day. And, if you’re into the woo-woo stuff, it elevates your consciousness and opens you up to seeing possibilities that you’d otherwise miss.
Pro Tip: Use a small notebook or your phone’s notes app to jot these down or put on some music and use it as a meditative practice. - Move Your Body for 10 Minutes
Get your blood flowing with 10 minutes of movement (more if you can swing it)—think a brisk walk, some yoga stretches, or a quick dance session to your favorite song. This boosts your energy, improves your mood, and supports heart health. No gym required!
Pro Tip: Pick a go-to playlist or YouTube workout to make it fun.
These are three of my faves and I notice significant boosts in my energy, mood, and productivity when I’m consistent.
Challenge: Try these three habits every morning for the next 7 days, then tag me on social media (@melissarunacres on IG and TikTok) to let me know how it’s going—I’d love to hear about your wins!
Here’s to small steps and big results,
