So… my week started off a little intense. Yesterday, I got called up for jury duty (didn’t end up getting selected) for a case that was… heavy. We went through over 6 hours of vetting before we were released and the subject matter left a number of potential jurors pretty triggered.
I didn’t realize just how much I’d been affected until I was debriefing with my husband last night and suddenly burst into tears.
I knew a good night’s sleep was needed (and it helped!), but I still didn’t feel emotionally 100% when I woke up.
Thank God for a consistent morning routine!
With rare exceptions, I have some simple habits that I do every day. Because they’re locked in, I don’t have to think about them, which frees up my mental bandwidth to focus on other things. And on days like today, when I’m processing deeper heart ‘stuff’, it sure feels helpful to not be trying to figure out what I’m doing for breakfast.
Even the familiarity of the routines felt comforting, and I’m feeling a lot better now.
This whole process got me thinking and I wanted to ask you:
What AM habits do you have in place that support your wellbeing—on both the good and rough days?
Do you love your morning routine?
Does it feel life-giving?
Do you need an upgrade?
Do you just need a routine, full stop?
If any of this resonates, check out these blog posts I wrote on my 3 must-haves for a successful AM routine and this one detailing how to win the day with your morning routine where I outline some of my favorite habits.
They’ve guided me over the years and I’d love to share them with you.
No matter how your week (or day) has started, I’m praying you find beauty and joy in some simple habits over the coming days.
Cheering you on, today and always,
