My heart is heavy today.

In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, the riots, and so much else that is going on around us right now it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with all that’s wrong in the world.

Knowing how to help, where to engage, when to speak/listen, when to take a break to personally recharge, when to push through discomfort—it’s challenging. And that’s okay.

When I find myself in situations like this I often turn to prayer, and by prayer I mean talking to God like I would a trusted parent or friend. One who has the perspective, answers, and wisdom that I don’t but that I need.

Perhaps it’s the overflow of being raised in church and growing up reading the psalms of David, but I find that sometimes the best way I can ‘process’ is to pray it out. Just like he did.

Today, I wanted to share one of those prayers with you.

Father—

I come before you as a daughter today and I lift up each person reading these words. Right now, I ask for tangible peace to be poured out into our hearts. Peace that passes understanding. Peace that brings stillness in the storm.

Holy Spirit, come.

Would you please give us ears to hear and eyes to see and hearts that are tuned in to Your heartbeat? We want to be your hands and feet on the earth.

Where there is mourning, I ask for your comfort to wrap around us like a thick blanket.

I ask for wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent in order to listen (and hear) what those around us are truly saying. Please give us understanding hearts.

Help us remember that the battle isn’t against flesh and blood.

Please show us the path to making wrong things right.

I ask this in the Name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace,

Amen

Do you have a prayer request today? Tell me in the comments. I’d love to pray for you. xx
